Ups and downs

Another week flies by with more work being quoted for and new opportunities coming to the fore. With the house on the market ready for a move with my business moving to a bigger premises and introduction of new staff and new products things can be a little stressful in the next few weeks. No one dares to mention the C word that come towards the end of the year,Although as a business we do need to look that far in advance as our order book now goes beyond this year and with training and forecasts well beyond. Did have a nice little distraction this week in the form of a repair of some furniture for someone and it knitted in very nicely.

Some sad events yesterday when we took my mums cat Nigel to the vet as he wasn't himself upon the vet trying to look at him he became very agitated and stressed himself out to such a degree his heart failed and he died in my mums arms a relatively huge tragedy in our circles as he was well loved and not that old only 8 years old. We lost his brother last year who lived with us and his sister died the year before. they all had health issues but it come very hard to lose any pet as they were so loved. So this weeks thoughts go to remembering them and good times. To Nigel , Bob and Tigger we miss you x

Hometown visit

Yesterday , that is Sunday 15th we were at my home town of Whittlesey for the annual festival in the town. After worrying all week about taking my business there and what the weather had in store , it was actually a relief for the morning to arrive and get set up. The conditions weren't great first thing with a cold wind but it was fine. The morning got off to a slow start pretty much as we expected, then things came to life mid morning with a lot of friends and family coming down and a lot of people i hadn't seen for years which was all in all more than i could have wished for as they were all very supportive and surprised at the quality of our stand. ( I still don't know whether that was a compliment to us or not lol). As far as the business was concerned it went very well talking to the people of Whittlesey in general i had 10 firm enquiries of which i think most of them will lead to a commission. Very happy with the day and the highlight without a doubt was seeing the people i hadn't seen for along time . Thank you to my wife, Ian the organizer and all the people of my home town who did themselves proud.

The week that was.........

Hi All, i hope as i continue with this mullarky my writing and composition will steadily improve. It has been another pleasing of a week , Strange but pleasing none the less.. A lot more interest in my business was generated and the call from the telly. Progress is steady with my latest commission if not spectacular with the base  cabinets see below. Another show on tomorrow @ Whittlesey more nervous about this one than any other we have done, due to the fact that its my birth town and the first time i have taken my business to the town. The forecast is none to special for Sunday but we are inside and we will get chance to see some old friends and colleagues. I will dish out a full report on the events with photo's when i get chance

A joiners life

Hello everyone. I am new to all this but i thought i must have a go. I will introduce myself, my name is Simon and i am a furniture maker. After many years of going round in circles trying to find the right vocation i decided a couple of years ago (in the midst of a large recession) to start my own business by making hand made bespoke furniture. Its not been easy at times i admit but i love it. I was told when i was training to be a cabinet maker that if i find something i enjoy i won't have to work again so to speak. Today was a strange day with a phone call from DIY SOS about wanting me to work on a project in Peterborough, i will keep it posted how it progresses.  At the moment i am in the middle of a large wall unit for a customer and got 4 more jobs lined up and more coming in daily. My marketing is taking off but like i say it's been hard work getting to this stage with the help of Tim , Rita and loads of others who believe in me. to them i say a big thank you.
